Summer is almost here, and C.C. Mellor is going to be the place to be for cool camps, fun activities, laughter and friends and the chance to learn new things (in a fun and exciting way, of course!). We’ve got mini camps as well as regular programming lined up that’ll make CCM the place to be this summer, and we’re starting it all off with our second annual Summer Block Party on June 6! Bring the family, grab your friends and head to Westinghouse Lodge in Forest Hills next to the borough building between 4 and 7 p.m. Explore a fire truck, check out a special exhibit from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, learn some martial arts moves with Shaolin Studios, get some dinner from Dad’s food truck or a sweet treat from the ice cream truck, play games, make buttons and other souvenirs and more! We’ll be updating the website in the coming weeks with all the details so stay tuned!
The Block Party is our official kickoff to our summer programming. In addition to our summer reading program we’re going to have some very egg-citing visitors in the children’s library in June! That’s right, we’re going to be hatching chickens again! We’ll be getting our eggs on May 31, and they’ll stay in the incubator for about three weeks. During that time we’ll be periodically “candling” the eggs, which is where we hold a flashlight up to see what’s going on inside, and learning all about how the baby chicks develop. After three weeks our little friends should be ready to make their debuts! They’ll stay with us for about two weeks before they’ll outgrow our space and have to move on, so be sure you stop in and say hello! Or, you can join us for Chicken Camp!
This summer we’ve got five different mini camps, each lasting four days, in addition to weekly programming including old favorites such as Storytime in the Park and some new additions such as Explorers Club and Adventure Club!
