2020 Census

Visit 2020CENSUS.GOV anytime to get the latest news, or call the Census Bureau Customer Service Center at 1-800-923-8282 or 301-763-INFO (4636.)

The census is…

EASY: By April 1, 2020, every home will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. You will have three options for responding: online, by phone or by mail. In mid-March, households will begin receiving official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census.

SAFE: Responses to the 2020 Census are safe, secure and protected by federal law. Answers can only be used to produce anonymous statistics—they cannot be used against any person or household in any way. There will be NO question asking if a respondent is a U.S. citizen in the 2020 Census.

IMPORTANT: The census counts everyone in the United States. Census results are the basis for congressional representation and help determine how more than $675 billion in federal funds is distributed each year to support vital programs in states and communities across the country. These funds shape local health care, housing, education, transportation, employment, and public policy.
